Trim Jerome B.

Born on March 28, 1828 in Oswego County, NY Jerome came to Michigan at age 9. Enlisted in Independent company, First Infantry, Mexican War, June 18, 1847, at Detroit, for 2 years. He married Elizabeth Husted, (born in New York on April 6, 1826) on Nov. 11, 1849. They had at least two children, Charles Franklin and Erwin J.
Enlisted in company H, Fifth Infantry, as Wagoner, Aug. 20, 1861, at Fort Wayne, for 3 years, age 33. Mustered Aug. 28, 1861. He was present at the following battles and engaements: Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Siege of Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks and seven days retreat with continued fighting to Harrison’s Landing. He then went to Arlington Heights where he was taken sick. Dropsy developing, his discharge was obtained on Nov. 18, 1862 and he came home for a year after having spent some time in hospital.
Re-entered service in company E, Sixth Cavalry, Nov. 24, 1863, at Corunna, for 3 years, age 25. Mustered Dec. 9, 1863. He joined the regiment at Stephensburg, VA. At the battle of Five Forks, Mr. Trim’s horse was shot and fell upon him, giving him severe injuries. He was taken to the hospital at West Philadelphia where he remained until discharged July 24, 1865. Discharged for disability at West Philadelphia, PA, July 24, 1865.
He was an invalid and never able to do any work since the war. Besides the injuries to his knee and hips, he was so deaf as to be obliged to use a trumpet. The Government granted him a pension of $24 per month.
Mr. and Mrs. Trim were members of the Presbyterian Church in which he was a Trustee. He was a strong Republican and a member of the Masonic Lodge, No. 115, at Corunna. He belonged to the Ancient Order of United Workmen, Charter Oak Lodge, No. 55.
Jerome died on 6 March 1911 in Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI.
