Elijah served in several school and township offices as well as on the County Board of Supervisors. He also owned a furniture and undertaking business. Elizabeth died as result of a farming accident in May, 1899. Elijah remarried Fannie Flye in 1900. He died in April 1917 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska Township.
