When informed by surgeons on 2 July that he would die if his leg was not amputated, he pleaded with Colonel Morrow, who was assisting with the wounded, that he would be able to rejoin the regiment if only he could keep his leg; it was amputated anyway. Discharged for disability at Detroit, MI, Feb. 26, 1864. Admitted to the National Soldiers Asylum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 25 February 1868; attended the dedication of the 24th Michigan monument at Gettysburg 12 to 14 June 1889. | |
